How Our Technology Works

Our technology provides tools to automatically build systems to support unified access to multiple existing search engines. Our unique benefit is in connecting effortlessly to the right search engines to solve each specific need.

The WebScaler's technology is based upon several years of collaborative research and development between universities and the company, and is funded by the National Science Foundation. The details and history of the research & development efforts driving our technology can be found here.

We deliver time-sensitive and location-specific information from surface and deep Web. Our technology platform can be used to build various industry-specific vertical applications. Our core capabilities, as listed below, uniquely set us apart from existing technologies:
  • Scalability. Ability to automatically integrate 1000s of sources, both deep and surface Web. Comprehensive ranking and selection capability. From 1000s of sources, we select, during retrieval, a small subset most appropriate for a specific query.
  • Customizability. For example, one can choose CNN, ESPN. Someone else can choose Slate, People. Our technology is protected by two pending patents. One pertains to the generation of customized metasearch engine systems and the second to automatic wrapper generation for search engines.
  • Semantic Matching. Users can obtain information that is intended by the user, by matching for sematically similar words, even though the query words are not actually present in the retrieved relevant documents.
